What Is Skin Elasticity

Your skin is in a good condition if it maintains its original elasticity. This means that even if it is stretched, it will go back to its original state just like a rubber band. The main part of the skin that is responsible for this elasticity is the dermis.

Why is the skin elastic? To answer this question, you need to know understand the function of the dermis. This layer of the skin is made up of connective tissues and collagen. It makes sure that the skin is strong enough to protect the body from the outside. The dermis is also made up of reticular fibers. These are the fibers behind the elasticity and extensibility of the skin. Over the years, the skin becomes less and less elastic mainly because of aging. But there are things that you can do to keep your skin young, healthy and strong.

The first thing that you can do is to exercise. When you exercise, your skin receives a good amount of blood through improved circulation. The blood helps in toning the skin and providing nutrients that are important to keep the skin healthy. Sweating is also good because it releases the toxins from the skin. Therefore, you need to squeeze exercise into your daily schedule whenever possible.

The second thing that you can do is to drink water. When your skin looks very dull and dry, there is a huge possibility that you lack liquids. Keeping your body hydrated will not only benefit your body in general but it will also keep the skin elastic. You need to remember that the skin releases liquids when you perspire therefore you need to replace those liquids by drinking lots of glasses of water.

The third thing that you can do is to bathe using warm water. The skin is exposed to all sorts of dirt from the environment. This can affect your skin negatively especially when the pores are blocked. Warm water will help in opening the pores and making sure that the skin is cleansed thoroughly. You should be careful not to make the water too hot though because your skin might be burnt especially if you have a sensitive one. For your face, you can wash with cold water after using warm water to close the pores and prevent dirt from entering.

The fourth thing that you can do is to stop smoking. Cigarettes contain nicotine, a harmful substance for your body. You need to understand that nicotine is especially bad for your skin. When you smoke, your blood vessels become rigid and narrow making blood circulation difficult for your body. It will reduce the amount of nutrients and oxygen in your blood therefore your skin will look pale. In addition, the collagen and reticular fibers will also be affected and so will your skin's elasticity.

Your skin is the largest organ that is visible through naked eye. It protects your body from the outside therefore it is your job to make sure it stays healthy and well-protected as well.
