Can Exercise Improve Your Looks? Learn How You Could Look Better And Younger With Small Changes
I am 40 years old and I have to say that I seem to have aged more in the last 12 months than in the previous 39 years. I can attribute it in part to moving from a country where my lifestyle was largely outside to a place where I am forced to live indoors a lot more as well as having to deal with central heating which seems to have some weird effect on my skin but overall I think the muscles in my face are simply drooping.
It's also fair to say that I have not been exercising or eating as well as I had done in the past so I am sure something can be done to improve things. We all focus very much on the aesthetics or our bodies, spending time and money on our physical appearance but we don't pay the same attention to the structure of our faces. It's no wonder our faces give up on us!
I have written before about facial exercises as it makes sense to me, build the muscles, define your face in the same way you would your body, but I have struggled to find a product that I think really delivers without being too heavy on the sales pitch. With that in mind I am just going to start doing what feels right both through what I'm eating and my exercise regime and record the results. I have done plenty of research so I think it's quite possible that I'll see some dramatic changes over time.
I think one of the biggest problem areas is the chin, not only the double chin but also the jaw line as a whole. As our cheek muscles lose shape it only follows that everything below will drop too. I personally have developed lines around my mouth and if I am honest there really is no definition along my jaw line anymore. I am currently starting to do some exercises which target the neck and chin and also serve to loosen up tight muscles. In fact as I sit here typing I can perform these movements quite easily too.
Simple Exercises To Reduce Your Double Chin
Tilt your head back as far as you can at which point you will feel a pull from your chest all the way up to your chin. Now reach your bottom lip over your top, you will find that in order to do this you will need to push your lower teeth forward too. Hold that extended position for the count of 5, repeat as many times as you can, at least 5 I would say.
Now, without dropping your chin turn your head over to the left side and you will feel a stretch all the way down to your collarbone. Repeat the lip reaching exercise in this position before moving over to the right side.
The next thing I do which I think almost helps to pull things back up to where they used to be is work on the cheek muscles. There are many ways to do this but here's a start.
Try to pull your cheeks up to your eyes, an easy way to do this is to try to blink with your lower lids, lift them and you'll find your cheeks are doing the work to get them there. Repeat this many times, and in a similar way to repetitions you do in a workout, vary the timings. Lift and hold for five, then do 5 rapid pulses.
These small exercises are only a start but if you do them every day you will notice a difference. I am putting together some other information on this which I'll be publishing on my website as well as in more articles.
In summary, in answer to the question of can exercise improve our looks I think the answer is of course it can, if you are consistent and give it time to work. If combined with a healthy eating plan and good skincare it will be even better.
