Manicures and Pedicures 101

Manicures and pedicures are one of the easiest and most fun ways to spoil yourself. In fact, they are two of the most popular treatments that are performed at beauty salons. There are a number of options and extras that can take the pampering to the absolute top level. This will provide you some insight into what all goes into a good manicure and pedicure.

Nail Polish

Before your manicure or pedicure begins you will have the opportunity to choose the color of polish that you want. Of course, everybody knows that manicures and pedicures are all about the color! There are a number of colors to choose from. Don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and choose something that you wouldn't ordinarily. If you are feeling like you need a bold change, try out a wild color. Or if you feel like keeping it simple go with that! The point here is that you can do whatever you want. The choice is yours.

Shape up

The next part of the process is the shaping of the nails. During this time your nails will be buffed and shaped so that they are uniform and smooth. This will ensure that your nails look even and that all potential hang nails have been removed. Your cuticles will also be pushed down and clipped to provide a fresher look.

Enjoy the Massage

Usually with manicures and pedicures you should be given a relaxing massage to your hands or feet. Some salons offer warm pools of water to soak your hands and feet in to add more relaxation to the experience while also including nutrients in the water to feed your skin. Not only is this a time to help you relax, but also when the technician is applying much needed moisture to your skin.

Strengthen your nails

While many people opt for a manicure and pedicure because it leaves their nails looking great, there are also other benefits. A good salon will include a number of oils, herbal pastes, and special polishes that will strengthen your nails so they are less likely to chip and break.

Relax

More than anything manicures and pedicures are meant to be a time to unwind. The typical amount of time spent on a manicure or pedicure is roughly half an hour. In that time you will be able to allow yourself to relax and beautify yourself at the same time. You will walk away look good and feeling even better. And you wonder why so many people do it!
