Natural Winter Skin Treatments
Winter can be very tough on our skin. Extreme dryness, flakiness and roughness can all result from the colder and usually drier air leaving our skin feeling like a desert. Fortunately there are many natural treatments you can do in order to bring moisture and suppleness back to your skin that are also very economical as well.
Coconut Oil
Coconut oil is wonderful for easing dry skin and offering protection from harsh wind and dry winter air. It is recommended that you shower first then apply liberally unrefined organic coconut oil to all areas of skin. It is even safe enough to use on the face. Let about five minutes for oil to be absorbed by the skin then towel off the excess.
Organic Olive Oil
This too is an excellent skin treatment for dry winter skin. The technique above would be perfect for overall full body use of this oil as well. This can also be made into a winter cleansing facial oil, by blending 3 TBSP of organic olive oil with 1 teaspoon of avocado oil and 1 capsule of vitamin e (alternatively, 2 drops of grapefruit seed extract may be added in place of the vitamin e for natural preservation), massage oil blend gently over face and then use a warm flannel cloth to remove. Place in a dark bottle for storage until your next use.
Drink plenty of water
Skin is greatly affected by our internal hydration as well, so drinking plenty of clean, filtered water is imperative. Limiting our amount of caffeine intake is also very helpful.
Organic Raw Honey
Honey is not only an excellent moisturizer, but also is antibacterial as well. This treatment is best applied to the face, however if an overall body treatment is desired, one could add a half cup of organic raw honey to a warm bath and soak for about 30 minutes. For the facial treatment use about one tablespoon of the honey and apply all over the face. Let soak for at least 20 minutes then rinse as you normally would.
Milk bath
This was Cleopatra's favorite treatment. Add at least 2 cups of organic goat or cow milk to a warm bath and soak for at least 30 minutes. One of the reasons that this treatment works so well to soften dry skin is that milk contains lactic acid that naturally assist in the chemical exfoliation of dead skin cells.
And there you have five ways to naturally winterize your skin as well as save money! Nature is abundant with everything we need to keep our skin happy and healthy during the winter.
