Why Your Diet Will Help Cure Your Vitiligo
You are what you eat. We've heard that saying for years. This is especially true for vitiligo sufferers. For many, it would seem far fetched to think that the skin disease that they are suffering from is, in any way, handcuffed to their diet. However, experts have made the correlation and have determined that changing diet can cure vitiligo.
If you eat plenty of processed foods, you are likely to suffer worse outbreaks than a person that doesn't eat these types of foods. Processed foods aren't high in antioxidants. Antioxidants are helpful in fighting diseases and ailments. Also, fast foods are high in fats which tend to wear down the body and give the body 'stress'. Scientists have discovered that food allergies can help contribute the vitiligo outbreaks. Now, different allergies do different things to the body. Some allergies cause the skin to break out, others affect the respiratory system. However, all of these allergic reactions will place 'stress' on the body and that will cause new vitiligo outbreaks or worsen existing ones. Other things to consider when thinking about your diet are do you eat spicy foods regularly?
If you find out that you need to adjust your diet, there are several things you can do. Eat more tofu and drop foods right in cocoa. Try to limit your gluten intake as much as possible. Reduce the spicy dishes that you eat. Consult a diet specialist. They will go over your dietary habits. They will probably test you for certain food allergies. If you test positive to any particular foods, the dietary specialist will give you alternative foods to replace the food that you are allergic to.
After going through the process of eliminating any foods that could cause additional outbreaks, it's time to add some foods that can assist you in your battle against vitiligo. Fruits and vegetables are excellent sources of antioxidants. Antioxidants are essential in freeing the body from free radicals. I'm not exactly sure what free radicals are but I know that we don't want them.
People suffering with vitiligo will do just about anything to get the pigmentation back in their skin. So we expect that most will adjust when they discover that a diet change can cure vitiligo. While we can't guarantee that your vitiligo will disappear as the result of dietary changes, we can assure you that a healthier body will be under less stress. Less stress on the body usually means less severe outbreaks; or none at all. The best gift of all is when you are able to look in the mirror and discover that your vitiligo is disappearing. This is the best formula of all: healthier diet + less vitiligo = SMILE!
